Community and Government Relations for Congress Centres

This publication is intended to be a resource for managers who are regularly expected to deal with community or government audiences. It offers a variety of strategies and activities for centre manager to employ in addressing these important audiences along with how to go about assembling the information and other resources required to make this communication productive.

As is stated in the publication itself  “There is an ongoing need to remind both groups of the roles congress centres play, the benefits they generate and the challenges they face, in order to create a positive working environment and the support base that is needed to deal with challenges and issues that emerge from time to time”. The Guide proposes an overall framework for organizing such activities and carrying them out with various audiences; in this respect, it is a good companion piece to an earlier publication in the AIPC series “Media Relations Strategies for Congress Centre Managers”.

Developing and Implementing Quality Standards for Congress Centres

This publication is the product of a lengthy review of how best to design and implement a set of operating standards that would be adaptable to the wide range of variability we see amongst different member centres. It identifies a series of categories where, as a result of extensive research and comparison with other sets of standards, we have concluded there is a need for evaluation, along with a suggested process for doing this.

Essentially, the publication recommends an approach where a centre demonstrates that they have addressed each key area with appropriate analyses and policies rather than simply prescribing a standardized formula for each function. It is essentially a framework by which a centre can evaluate themselves in relationship to their unique constraints and opportunities, as different as these may be from those of other facilities.

AIPC’s Guide to Calculating Economic Impact Figures and Putting Them to Use!

As the title implies, this publication is intended to serve as a guide to Centres looking to develop economic impact figures for their facility. As with others in this series, it does not provide a "formula" for economic calculations, in recognition of the many different circumstances faced by members. Instead, it sets out the various factors which must be taken into account and describes a process by which Centres can design and carry out their own calculation. At the same time, it offers suggestions on how the resulting figures can be used to best advantage with both shareholders and the community.

AIPC’s Guide to Security Planning for Congress Centres

This publication was prepared from an analysis of recent literature on this important subject, and with the benefit of input from industry experts. It outlines a series of key areas for congress centres to consider and a process by which a comprehensive plan for facility security can be developed.

AIPC Guide to Media Relations for Congress Centre Managers

A big part of community relations involves the news media, since they are responsible for how business, public and even government groups get much of their information. This publication addresses media related topics ranging from understanding the media through how to conduct an interview and even developing an ongoing program for media contact.

Environmental Strategies for Convention Centres

This publication addresses the reasons why meeting facilities should develop an environmental strategy and outlines how to develop tactics that are consistent with operational realities as well as the need for the support and cooperation of clients, suppliers and the surrounding community.
